Tom Saintfiet, the esteemed Belgian coach, has resigned from his position as the head coach of the Gambian national football team, concluding a tenure that began in July 2018 and spanned until January 2024. His extensive coaching career has taken him across various countries, including Belgium, Qatar, Germany, Faroe Islands, Finland, Jordan, and the Netherlands.

Saintfiet’s notable contributions extend beyond Gambia, having led the national teams of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Togo, among others. His coaching prowess was evident in his time at the helm of RoPS Rovaniemi in the Finnish Premier League and guiding the Qatar national under-17 football team to a third-place finish in the AFC U-17 Championship in 2004. 

During his five and a half years with the Gambian national team, Saintfiet achieved a remarkable feat by securing qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) twice in a row.
