On Tuesday, November 23, the Recording Academy revealed the list of Nominees for the 64th Grammy Awards scheduled for January 31, 2022, and Africa is well represented.

The African nominees include Nigeria’s Afrobeat star Wizkid, the African giant Burna Boy, the talented Tems, Black Coffee of South Africa, the legendary Angelique Kidjo, and Nigeria’s beloved Femi and Made Kuti.

Without surprise, Wizkid’s Made in Lagos Deluxe was nominated for Best Global Music alongside the global Hit Essence featuring the talented Tems gets nods for Best Global Music Performance category– making Tems get her first-ever Grammy nomination.

Will there be a grammy without Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy? I don’t think so *winks*. “Do Yourself,” by both of them, got to be under the Best Global Music Performance category making Burna Boy bag a Grammy nomination for the third time in a row.

South Africa’s Black Coffee made it to the list, too, with his album “Subconsciously” released early this year under the Best Dance/Electronic Music Album category with his nomination and Ghanaian artist Rocky Dawuni under Best Global Music Album.

Father and son, Femi and Made Kuti- also get their names on the prestigious nomination list for the ‘legacy +, an album by the two packages together to be one. Released in February 2021, Afrobeat dominated the album, invented by Fela Kuti, Femi’s father and Made’s grandfather,

The Grammy Awards– is undeniably the most prominent music recognition globally, rewarding artists annually for their hard work and efforts. This year’s nomination saw some significant changes done by the academy to ensure the awards guidelines and rules are rules and guidelines are transparent and equitable.
