A New World Record for Longest Cooking Marathon
Irish chef Alan Fisher has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, previously held by Nigeria’s Hilda Baci. Baci set the record in 2021 with a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon. However, Fisher cooked for a grueling 119 straight hours to claim the new record.
Fisher owns a restaurant in Japan that struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by Baci, who broke the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set in 2019 by Indian chef Lata Tondon, Fisher was determined to claim the record for himself.
After nearly 5 full days of continuous cooking, Fisher finally broke Baci’s record late last week. The dishes he prepared during his marathon cooking session paid homage to his Irish roots and Japanese locale. Fisher pushed through exhaustion, sore feet, and mental fatigue to achieve this incredible feat.
The new record for the longest cooking marathon stands at 119 hours, showing Fisher’s dedication to his craft. His accomplishment is a testament to the human capacity for endurance and focus when pursuing a goal. Both Baci and Tondon should also be recognized for holding the record for multiple years prior to Fisher’s successful attempt.
